Welcome to No Escape‘s coverage of the 2024 Summer of Games. There are over a dozen events taking place over the course of the weekend that all aim to showcase new and upcoming independent and AAA video games. It can be a lot to take in, so we’re engaging in a bit of service journalism to help you manage it all. Check back in with No Escape every day to see a rundown of each showcase and a collection of trailers and announcements from each one. All times in CDT
Tuesday, June 4
Best Indie Games Summer Showcase 2024 (10:00 AM CDT): three full hours of trailers from new and upcoming indie titles hosted by Clemmy Games. Might be the best place to look for new indie games out of any presentation we’ll see this week. We’ll do a full retrospective rundown of the event later this week.
Thursday, June 6
Guerrilla Collective Livestream hosted by MIX (12:00 PM CDT): Over 70 games shown during the main livestream and 18 more during the developer showcases – another just astonishing amount of trailers on display here.
Friday, June 7
Access-Ability Summer Showcase 2024 (10:00 AM CDT): The really cool thing about this showcase that I loved from last year is that it isn’t just trailers that show how “cool and neat” a game is – it’s the developers talking about their accessibility settings and accommodations for people with different disabilities. Definitely a must-see event.
Summer Game Fest 2024 (4:00 PM CDT): *sigh* it’s Geoff’s thing. It’s two hours long. You know the drill.
Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition (6:00 PM CDT): A mid-tier and indie-level showcase from DoubleFine and Iam8bit, which never fails to at least provide a nice palette cleanser to Geoff’s adstravaganza.
Devolver Direct (7:00 PM CDT): We’re either going to learn about games or have our time even more profoundly wasted. It’s dealer’s choice and the house always wins.
Saturday, June 8
Get ready, y’all. Even though Geoff’s Event has already happened, Saturday is the most jam-packed day of the weekend, with five basically back-to-back-to-back showcases all sitting on top of each other like a stack of game trailer pancakes.
Future of Play Direct (10:00 AM CDT): a showcase that claims to be doing something different and being “inspired by Toonami.” Who knows, man.
Wholesome Direct (11:00 AM CDT): It’s gonna be what it’s always been, so as Geoff said, lmao, “temper your expectations” and don’t flame out over this slate of “cozy,” “wholesome” video games.
Latin American Games Showcase (12:00 PM CDT): An official Summer Game Fest presentation by Devolver and Raw Fury of over 70 games from LATAM region-specific developers. Kinda looking forward to this.
Women-Led Games Summer Showcase (1:30 PM CDT): Another pretty cool presentation happening on Saturday. I don’t know how long this one is going to be, but likely prepare to be double-streaming this and the next scheduled item.
Future Games Show (2:00 PM CDT): It’s the video game trailer showcase hosted by Future Publishing, Ltd.! Sure, fine, okay!
Sunday, June 9
Xbox Games Showcase/CoDBlOps 6 Direct (12:00 PM CDT): To be entirely honest I have half a mind to skip this because of the ways in which Microsoft did Tango and Arkane Austin dirty all so it could do sexually explicit things with Activision-Blizzard properties. But I’ve already compromised myself morally to cover these trailers in the first place, so, you know.
PC Gamer Presents: The PC Gaming Show 10th Anniversary (3:00 PM CDT): No matter what happens with Xbox I’ll be bailing out at 3 to watch this instead. Full disclosure: I freelance for PC Gamer occasionally, though I won’t be working for them in any capacity during this.
What about…?
Nope. That’s it, there are no more presentations after this.
“But what about U-” nuh-uh. Nope.
Anyway, thanks for checking this post out! We’ll see you at the trailer dumps – I mean presentations!
